I was showing my bass to a (non bass playing) buddy. He did something that everyone always does but it never really hit me till today.
I handed him the bass and instead of just checking it out and doing some plucking, strait off he started tying to "slap and pop" despite the fact that he couldn't do it at all, I mean AT ALL!. As I watched him it occurred to me that this happens all the time when you let someone check out a bass.
It's like they are trying to show off that they "know something" about the bass when if fact they are just fumbling and bumbling and looking like a fool.

Sadly, many bass players also do this. :)

Am I the only one who notices bass players going off during soundcheck with slapping, popping, and wubbida wubbida only to be solid 1-5 during the whole show?
