Hey, it's a huge shock when it happens. I'm already in my 40's and the
numbers keep getting higher (fortunately!), but like you, I look a lot
younger, or so I'm always told.

The first shock came at a temp job I had a couple of years ago. There
was a 29 year old woman who kept on about her being younger and me being
older. I finally told her to cut it out, that I didn't think of myself
as old. I was really hurt and wanted to tell her that her youth was
temporary, but that seemed cruel. She was just clueless in her remarks,
not hateful.

I went to see Victor Wooten last night, and while we were waiting around
for the meet and greet, some drunk guy was yacking everyone up. And he was telling a story about his kid's high school play, and how it was so funny there was this old fat woman playing piano to die for. This was too much, so I just came out with it, that there are a lot of old fat guys making music and getting paid a lot of money for it. And you don't stop being a musician just because you're older. It shut him up for at least a minute, which earned me a few smiles:)

Well, bitterness will age you worse than the sun. Be happy that you are in the greatest profession in the world and you are doing it!
