NOw, that doesn't change the conclusion that a UPS isn't a practical,
light, or economical solution to the situation, or that a pure sine
wave output, auto voltage regulating model of sufficient heft (like
the APC ones designed for big ass rich people consumer audio systems
such ashttp://apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=310) might
actually help matters until the batteries give up in the event the
house line voltage is really that low to cause all this wackiness.
The OP asked about a UPS (often found with an APC name) that does
not output sufficient power; that does not output sine waves, etc.
OP asked:
Is there any reason *not* to run the amp (and, for that
matter, our PA) through an uninterruptible power supply
(UPS) like the ones folks use for computers?
Why, Todd H, are you discussing something completely different from
what the OP asked about? Computer UPSes don't do what you have
posted. OP asked about a computer UPSes - a completely different
machine from what you have described.
Because it's something I mentioned in my original reply to him
upthread about 50 posts, before you came in here with your cape on to
save us all and set us all right.
UPS in battery backup mode will output power far 'dirtier' than what
the building provides. Are amp power supplies sufficient to make that
'dirty' electricity irrelevant? Todd H - do you know that? Brian
Running did not. Well if an amp's power supply makes that 'dirty' UPS
electricity irrelevant, then less 'dirty' building power is also
irrelevant.
Do you have enough electrical knowledge to know how 'dirty' that
power can be from a computer UPS? Or did you fall for popular myths
that all APC UPSes output pure sine waves? Another was so misinformed
as to assume the UPS also protects by being sacrificial.
Yes, yes as a matter of fact I do have that electrical knowledge.
Consider perhaps that you aren't the only one any school gave an EE
degree to and who designed circuits for a living.
So why do you keep talking about a battery backup mode UPS?
Run along now.
