I don't know about Garcia, but it definitely wasn't Phil Lesh. Once
Alembic started pimping out his axes, they had more knobs than the
cockpit of a passenger jet.

Okay I got to ask......Why?

I bought am American P-bass cheap because the guy had disconnected the
controls. Of course the first thing I did was install pots and knobs.

Don't you bypass at least some types of volume controls just by turning
them all the way up?

Acutally I believe you are correct. By turning the volume up and the tone
control up, you are essentally bypassing the controls. Passive controls
just bleed the signal and/or highs to ground.
