Talking about the Jews deserving Hitler--rationally? Reasonably?
This is obviously a new definition of those two words with which I
have been previously unfamiliar.
There's no reason to be afraid of discussing any topic rationally, which
could be defined as "based upon logical conclusions drawn from
observable facts," or reasonably, which could be defined as "being able
to admit the truth or falsity of a premise." Not wanting even to
discuss a topic because of superstition or taboo is not rational or
reasonable.
Superstition? Taboo? That's what they're calling common decency and
common sense these days?
Tell me, where is the "logical conclusion drawn from observable fact"
in opining that the Jews deserved to die, because they "murdered
Jesus" (something, by the way, you only hear whack-job Baptists
saying)? I don't see any logical conclusion, and the observable fact
is non-existent. Maybe it exists to you. That would say a whole hell
of a lot about you.
Discussing whether capitalism is good or evil or indifferent is a
discussion. Discussing whether it was right to strip Pluto of planet
status is a discussion. Discussing "why the Jews killed Jesus" or what
a fitting punishment would be is NOT a discussion. It's a pogrom. And
in case anyone reading is dense enough or anti-Semitic enough to
wonder why, it's because, according to every theologist in the world
who isn't an evangelical Protestant, the Jews didn't kill Jesus, the
Romans did, and the "The Jews killed Our Lord" concept is a smear that
has been perpetuated by every generation of Jew-bashers from Pontious
Pilate right through to today. It's like talking about black men being
sexual predators who will jump your women the moment you turn your
back on them, and then saying, "I never heard anyone else say that;
it's an independent observation I made all by myself." Riiiight. Sure
you did.
Perpetuating age-old anti-Jewish smears is not "discussing your
opinions." Anyone talking that way does not have a sufficiently
developed mind for its addled thoughts to have the lofty title of
"opinions." They're just spewing bigoted bile, and even worse, spewing
it in the name of the Lord who, according to Sister Patricia back in
6th grade, reserves an especially hot region of Hell for racists,
including anti-Semites.
Want to know if your "friend" is just shootin' the breeze, or a raging
bigot? Point out the fact that, according to every single source,
Jesus was born and died a Jew. It was His Resurrection that created
the new Christian faith, because it was only by rising from the dead
that He proved he was more than human. If your friend looks at you
funny, or says it wasn't true, that "God made Jesus a Christian" (kind
of hard to be believer and deity at once) or some such nonsense,
you'll know.
