Re: Band Website

amateur. That website looks like it was done in Word 97, not kidding.
There are like 20 french mistakes. When you go look at the pictures,
you can't go back to the main site... there is no online demo... it
sucks.

So, I am planning to create a website for that band, nothing fancy,
maybe in Flash, and show it to the manager.

Any good looking band's website that I could be inspired from? (or even
steal the design...)

Oh, yeah, for you that are willing to have a laugh:

Hi Frederic,

I didn't look at your website, but I do web programming as a hobby (and boring database programming for a living). Here are some thoughts.

Flash is a bad idea unless there's no other way to do whatever it was you wanted to do. It's proprietary technology, which means that unless the people looking at your site have whatever is necessary installed, they won't see it. I run a 64 bit Linux machine, which I love, but occasionally, the Flash stuff gets weird. That is Adobe's fault and they don't care. Any site that says "requires blah blah blah" or "runs better with xyz" is kind of crazy, why depend on that stuff? And tiny little text boxes that you have to scroll through to read a paragraph drive me crazy!

What's the point of your site? To get info out there to your fans and to attract new fans, right? Forget everything they want you to do at work. Keep it simple. Easy navigation, some nice pics that don't take forever to download, a calendar, a place to sign up for your mailing list, some info about the band, contact info, links to your songs and where to buy cds. Later you can add bells and whistles.

Remember, you're a bass player, and you know the importance of space. It applies to websites too!

Okay, sorry if that was a rant, but I don't get to voice my opinion on this subject too often.

Take care,

-Susan
