The guy doesn't want to do it because some aspect of the "tenor bass" thing
went against his "ABC Luthier School" training and freaked him out, no
matter what he told you. I'd put money on it.
If you've got all the parts, your best bet is to do it yourself. It will
take longer and you'll make some mistakes, but you'll learn a lot and you
won't have to spend an hour explaining to some guy why he can't use the Stew
Mac P Bass file set to slot your nut...

Hey guys,get
I finally got all the parts for my 32" Tenor Bass, and an old friend
runs a cool music shop in town and does repairs, so I took it to him to
build. He gave me a decent estimate, said it would take a week or so to
to, and I took my ticket and left all the parts with him.top
I got a call a week later saying that he doesn't have time for it on
of all his other repairs, that it could be several *months* before he hasevery
time for it, and that I may as well come pick up my parts. I am so
frustrated, I'm all the way back to square one; sitting around with a box
full of parts. I'm going to call some other local people I know, but
time I find someone to work on it something comes up and they can't do it.Saturday.
I am starting to wonder if the bass is cursed.
On the positive side of things, I got to see Victor Wooten on
He played a Flecktones gig with the Oregon Symphony. It was very cool, the
strings were understated and supportive but when they all jumped in itadded
a lot. The conductor had a huge grin on his face all night, like heinto
couldn't quite believe that he was up there conducting this super-odd-time
nutty jazz stuff.
Victor sounded great, as he always does. No 8-minute thumb solos, but
some very interesting short solos and very tasteful fretless playing.
Futureman took a solo that knocked a cymbal stand into a mic stand which
went into the first row. Then the top of his stick broke off and flew
the air, which the audience loved. So he kept going with chunks of woodand
flying around until the stick literally shattered into splinters in his
hand.
Vic's new record comes out in April and rumor is that it's very good
has some super intense bass playing on it. ;)busy
It looks like I'll go out to Nashville in April for the Reunion Camp,
and then Vic's own band is coming back through the Northwest at the
beginning of May. I hope I can learn to play by then!
I have a "white boy funk" gig on Thursday (Will I get in trouble for
calling it that?), then a wedding on Friday and a normal club gig on
Saturday. My students are actually showing up this month too, so it's
at times, which is sure a nice change. Now if I could just get this Tenor
Bass finished, and the Blazer's would remember how to win some games, I'd
call it a good year so far.
