Follow up: I sent the person who posted this ad a link to this thread in
Google Groups. It was a friendly note, and I wished him the best of luck
in his search. He responded in a friendly tone and suggested I post his
response to the group. Seems like a decent guy. Here are his responses
verbatim.
Thanks, Jim.
These guys obviously don't deal with the idiots on CL/PHX or they would
understand why I have to spell out 'professionalism' in complete detail.
Yes, they are correct; real professionals don't need that level of detail.
Oddly enough I have gotten more positive response to this ad than the
other one I posted a while back.
It seems like the people who understand my plight get the gag. On the
other hand, jobs generally come with rules. Most of these guys forget
that little caveat when they demand pay.
Oh, and the positive responses have had NO interest in the money! Those
were the guys I couldn't reach by being nice.
I'm baffled. And, yes, you may share this with your board if you like.
Apparently people in Phoenix only respond when you're a dick!!
Thanks again for the link. My best to your boys on the bottom. It's only
rock and roll...I really don't get too worked up about it.
***Plus a follow-up***
Oh, one more thing for your gang, Jim.
I make a TON of money so I am not into music for money. The comment
about 'using your network' to get gigs is purely to the advantage of the
job applicant as I generally make little or no money on gigs and make
sure that everyone else gets paid. Even if it comes out of my own pocket.
See, I ain't so bad to work for! Maybe that will make more sense the the
bass boys.
You can check out my other website to see what I do for money. I'm sure
you are already familiar with my voice.
Thanks, again. I've enjoyed the input!
Thank you,
Jeff

I read the ad and thought "Wish I was in Phoenix. Wish I were good
enough for that type of gig." The money sounds fine, and seemed to be
a minimum, not a hard-rule.
After reading his response, it sounds like my initial feelings were
spot on.
