Yes, they do. Very slick design, very appealing. Anyone that sees one immediately pictures it on his or her desk.

Once they'd reached 17" there wasn't much reason to 'upgrade' unless the
monitor died. So the monitors were on a different, slightly longer,
upgrade cycle.

There are factors other than size. Increased resolution and better color management are a couple that are pertinent to photographers -- and if I plunk for the Mac, it'll be my photo-editing machine. Regarding the other things, most any PC tower can accommodate another hard drive, another sound card, various other I/O devices for sound interface, etc. Looking at the iMac, I just don't see that happening without external devices.

Here's a question for all of you -- lots of people build their own PCs, but why don't people build their own Macs? Why are the components not available, why can't the Mac OS be installed on home-built machines? Or can they? I.e., isn't there a lower-cost alternative for those of us that would like to try out the Mac OS?
