Windows for Workgroups 3.11 was actually a very good platform at the time. I remember writing an article about it and doing some testing. With an AMD 486-25 I could get WFWG to boot in 11 seconds. I had a peer to peer network running with shared printers. Using Trumpet Winsock I was hitting the interwebs. I had a four-line BBS running in the background as I used my machine for programming and writing.

Windows 3.0 was a nightmare - it made me wish that Geoworks had more software available for it.

Win 98SE was reasonably stable once you got it up and running. Sometimes that was easy, sometimes not. I never liked the NT interfaces all that much. Win2K was very good. XP has been pretty good, but I think they are getting a bit cartoonish with the interface. I'm not thrilled with Vista. I won't move to it until I have a good reason.
