Bass playing fun tip

So, I play at this church every Sunday. Let me just say the sound is less
than optimal. We run straight to the board, no amps of any kind allowed, and
monitor through an Aviom system. we have maybe 10 minutes to get everything
set up, forget about a soundcheck. The mix is, well... Lots of buzz and
muffled, overly compressed sounds.
I've switched to passive basses (active basses don't seem to work there - I
think they have the hot/cold pins switched at the board). Because of the
buzz and gain/EQ problems in their system, I started bringing my own DI/EQ
box.
A couple weeks ago, I broke my long 1/4" cable and forgot to get a new one
before Sunday. As they have NO spare 1/4" cables (don't ask), I quickly
grabbed an XLR M - 1/4" M cannon adaptor and ran out the door.
Damned if that wasn't the solution. Plugged it into the XLR cable from the
snake and straight to the bass. It looks like my bass has a huge boner, but
there's no buzz, and the sound is crystal clear. Not an EQ or a ground lift
on this thing either. Whoda thunk it?
For $6.00 it's not a bad piece of emergency gear to carry around with you
either.
