I don't need something that will blow the neighbours away, just a smal
unit with an okay sound.

Any recommandations?

Look for a used Polytone MiniBrute. 100 Watts, very small, sounds
great for guitars, electric or upright bass, keyboards, saxaphone...
they're AWESOME, and can be had for less than $250. The single 12"
version sounds the best to me, but I've heard good things about the
15" version as well. To me, that's too big for a practice amp.

My Polytone has done rock gigs since I picked it up two and a half
years ago... and it cost a LOT less than just about anything that
sounded decent in it's size-range.

Good luck!

In the interest of full disclosure, and my experience only: I've had a
15" mini-brute for many many years. At the beginning, it was perfect
for what I was doing and reliable. In recent years, though, it started
cutting out at random times, but often. So much so that I can't use it
for gigs anymore. Too unreliable. I've got other amps approximately as
old, but still chuggin'. Also, the minibrute is heavy and very old
technology. I'd only buy one today if it were all I could afford.
Just my 2c.
