She (yeh, a she doc - if Susan can play bass, a chick can be my doc) sends
me to an ear, nose and throat guy. Turns out it's not allergies but a
chronic infection in my sinuses that has probably been there since the
spring. We're going with an aggressive medical attack (higher/longer doses
of steroids and 30 days of Levaquin, a strong antibiotic).
I'm going to prove that I'm a better man than you by giving you some
possibly useful advice:
Proof that you're NOT a "Better Man" - If you were, you would have
just offered the advice and not taken a moment to point out how
"noble" you are, Mike. This just makes you sound bitter.
Watch the steriods, I was given steroids at fairly high doses for less than
one month and ended up with steriod-induced diabetes, which hasn't gone away
in over two years, my doctor says it's probably a permanent condition.
Diabetes is no fun, ask your doctor about the possibility of steriod-induced
diabetes at your dosage level.
Good advice! Too bad you made it leave a bad taste in someone's mouth
with your childish inference above.

If the medical approach doesn't clear out the fluid, he wants to put a
drainage tube in the ear. Anybody ever had that done? How did it affect
your playing/hearing?
As soon as the tube lets the fluid drain, your hearing will get better.
When I had it done, my hearing was back to near normal in less than 24
hours. Having the tube in may affect your very low frequency hearing
response a bit, but probably not enough to affect your bass playing. When
the tube is removed and the eardrum heals, your hearing should return to
normal.
Very nice of you to respond to Jim's question. Too bad you made it
leave a bad taste in someone's mouth with your childish inferences
above.
He also said that sinus surgery is probably inevitable. Anybody ever had
their septum straightened and or their sinuses scraped? Did it help?
I know a couple of people who had their sinuses scraped, both said it
didn't help much, and a couple who had their septums straightened and both
said that did help, and was well worth having done.
If you want to get rid of the sinus infections, quit smoking, I went from
having nearly constant sinus trouble to having almost none at all after I
quit.
Good advice. Too bad you made it leave a bad taste in someone's mouth
with your childish inferences above. Jim, if you're still smoking, and
going through sinus infections, dropping the smoking will change your
life... seriously!
Anybody ever have tinnitus caused by infection and fluid build-up? Did it
go away when the infection was gone? Please say yes.
Yes, it may take a while though. I had a severe ear infection several
years ago in my right ear, with major tinnitus, and it took a couple of
months for the tinnitus to go away completely. It was so bad, I was almost
deaf in my right ear until they put the tube in, but as soon as the fluid
drained my hearing was pretty much back to normal except for the tinnitus.
The tinnitus gradually faded in volume until it finally away completely.
Very nice of you to respond to Jim's question. Too bad you made it
leave a bad taste in someone's mouth with your childish inferences

Wanna know what tinnitus is like? Download the tone generator at
http://www.nch.com.au/tonegen/index.html. Play a sine wave at 4200Hz. Turn
it up so it just starts to compete and drown out your computer fan. Keep
it going hour after hour after hour after hour.
BTW, I didn't post this to get you to like me,
To steal Brian's posting style, Yes you did.
I could care less how you feel about me.
Yes you do.
I just have this compulsion to give advice to those less
fortunate than me whenever I have experience with the problem.
No you don't. You desperately want to be seen as an "Expert" - you're
not.
The tinnitus is your punishment for being such a jerk.
No it's not. Mike's a liar.
Try being nicer to people and maybe it will go away.
No it won't. But.. everyone should be nicer to people! I should be
nicer to Mike, but he's an arrogant jerk, who's wrong a lot, so... I
can't be. I just don't have it in me.
He actually had some good advice/life experience descriptions in this
post, Jim. It's too bad he got all sanctimonious and shitty about
offering it...
