Are all of your personal beliefs and worldview absolutely irrefutable?
Are they all supported by scientific research?  Do they all agree with a
majority of scientists worldwide?  If not, does that throw your
credibility on every single issue in doubt?  That's what you're saying
about Huckabee.

Brian, I don't think that Rich is saying that Huckabee's
superstitious* beliefs would throw into doubt his credibility ON EVERY
SINGLE ISSUE. But, for me, it would throw into doubt his credibility
on TOO MANY of the issues he must face. I would prefer my President
to base all his positions upon the best available knowlege, not upon
his unsupported beliefs. I would also like him to apply humanitarian
principles of respect and caring; firstly for American citizens, and
secondly for all other people (but those humanitarian principles must
be bolstered by strength and a realistic regognition that not everyone
with whom he must deal will share those principles).

The words of Jesus meet my criterion for humanitarianism, though (for
my taste) too many fundamentalist Bible-thumpers subscribe to brutal
Old Testament principles and fail to notice that Christ came along
later and refuted a lot of those Old Testament scriptures. Yet they
still call themselves "Christians".

But for my first criterion, we simply must not have another President
who bases decisions upon "faith", despite clear demonstrable evidence
that this faith is misplaced ("I don't believe in Global Warming", "I
don't believe in evolution" -- G.W. Bush, at different times during
the 2000 campaign). The Old Testament writers, ranging from 3,000 to
2,000 years ago, described, to the best of their knowlege, how and why
the physical world works. But, God, if such there be, gave us the
tools to discover the "mysterious ways" of his plan. His "laws" (law
of gravity, law of probablity, universal constants, etc.). It is
pretty darned insulting to God to assert belief in some primitive
writers' views, over the knowlege that has been so painstakingly
gained by persistent application of the tools He gave us.

We need a President who is not willfully ignorant (as the current one
so proudly and foolishly is).

* Superstition: belief in the supernatural or in a supernatural
power. If there is a God, and if he created Nature, then, by
definition, He is "supernatural", so, also by definition, belief in
God is "superstition". Make what you will of the connotations of the
word "superstition", but it absolutely applies.
