Stupid Anti-Smoking Law Killing the Bar Scene (Rant)

Earlier this year the voters passed an anti-smoking law even for bars
and private clubs. It was tied up in court for a while so they didn't
start enforcing it till september but ever since the bars and clubs have
been dead. This time last year I was booking into June already, now i've
got a total of six gigs booked for next year. A lot of places are
building heated outdoor smoking pavilions and such but until they get
those up and running they're not booking bands or booking less. Now my
New Years Eve gig i've had booked since last year decides to cancel.
Business has just been too slow and he's decided not to open on the
holidays.I had him under contract, but it was my standard contract with
the two week notice cancellation clause so i'm screwed. Next time I
contract a NYE gig i'll remove the cancellation part. I doubt i'll be
able to book another NYE gig this late. So hows this worked in other
states, do the bars eventually make a comeback or is it all doom & gloom
?
