OK, so since I'm in search of the mythical combo that will replace my
stack and I've been contemplating a couple boutique options, I gotta
ask: Have you played a Phil Jones or Acoustic Image? How does the
Markbass compare to those?
Played the Contra. If all I played was upright bass, I could be
talked into getting it. But the electric sound was too modern for me.
Plus I don't think a single 10" moves enough air to make me happy. I
love them together in a rig, but not by themselves. But the 12"
Markbass combo moves as much air as you could ever expect out of a
single 12" and it'll sound as modern or as old school as you need.
The only Phil Jones rig I've played is the Briefcase. Hated it.
Markbass makes a tiny 2-6" combo similar to the Briefcase. Loved it.
OK, modern/old school would likely be an issue for me as well. So I'll
give what you say a lot of weight. But now in terms of "old school",
did you give the Mesa Boogie Walkabout a shot? Particularly with your
need for a flight amp. (Not an issue for me at the moment.)

I'm guessing the walkabout would kick the MBs *** in terms of volume
and low-end depth. Remember the MB combo is just a small 12" combo.
The walkabout has that radiator bottom thingy going on, also its just
bigger = more low-end. That said, I think the MB combo is very nice.
But it is, what it is. A nice SMALL combo. If you dont expect
miracles, I think you'll dig it.
