Saw Art Blakey back in the '80's and he had this chick bass player who was
just destroying the thing. She was like 5 feet tall and played the upright
over her head (a la Milt Hinton). Absolutely ferocious. I saw a writeup on
her in BP in the early '90's, but I haven't seen or heard about her since.


Then there's the Queen of Youtube, Tal Wakenfeld...

I have a couple badass girl students as well.

Hi All,

As some of you know, my daughter is an up and coming bassist in her own
right (puts me to shame when it comes to the URB).

For her band class she's wanting to write a biography and report on a
female jazz bassist (URB is preferred).

We couldn't find anyone in our Google searches last night so I thought I'd
ask here for some additional info. Just a few names to point her in the
right direction would be great.
