Having a regular gig where new charts are thrown at you every week is a huge motivation for the inevitable practice needed to get it right first time through. In my case, and I'm self taught btw, it's an even split between showband/big band gigs, both of which, obviously, I wouldn't have unless I could read.Exactly. You wanna play rock covers for a living? Don't expect to see much standard notation coming your way, but don't be surprised at how many times you hear the word "tab" bandied about.
I've played rock covers for a living, tab was never mentioned.
Interesting. Mind if I ask your age? I'm 41. The younger guys I know grew up with tab. Guys my age and older learned pretty much by ear.
I'm surprised you've *never* heard it mentioned. I mean, *somebody* has to be visiting the 2,000,000 Google hits for Guitar Tabs.
