Jim...what's the deal with Arizona not observing Daylight Savings

Pacific Time Zone the other part of the year? Do TV shows start

just did? I need to know!!
I'm gonna try to answer this question in under 3,000 words and 20 posts.
Arizona doesn't observe daylight savings time because it's mostly desert out here. According to the rocket surgeons in the legislature, if we had an extra hour of daylight, all the plants would die. Nyuk!
My understanding of the reasoning is that it's so damned hot out here during the summer that if we had a late sunset with DST, it would never cool off enough to be able to do anything outside before bedtime.
As far as TV goes our prime time goes from 7 to 10 all year long regardless of DST. Some cable channels, however, shift by an hour. During the first half of football season, the morning games start at 10, which I like. After that they start at 11, which kind of kills the day in some respects.
From a gigging perspective, bars in Phoenix used to have to stop serving alcohol at 1:00 AM, but now it's 2:00 AM. However, based on my experience most people don't stay out that late anyway. Back east we often started gigs at 10:00. Out here we start at 9:00 and sometimes get requests to start even earlier.
