Because he's gotten used how to his cheapo unit responds to his instruments and that's perfectly legitimate. The error is thinking that one individual's experience encompasses all "real-world applications". He's probably never A/B'ed it with a really good tuner either. Do that an you realize pretty fast that like a car to a large degree you get what you pay for...not everyone needs a BMW M5 to commute 1/2 a mile to work though. The main difference between cheap tuners and expensive ones is accuracy and ease tuning a wide variety of instruments. If those things aren't paramount to your needs then a cheap one is the way to go. The Boss stomp box or TU-12H are the least expensive ones that work for me.
