I had a lot of this (referring to finger confusion) when I got my
first fiver. I find that wearing the 5 string a little higher than my
4 string (which I wear kinda low) it helps.

I already wear it pretty high, and actually I'm sitting on a stool mostly
(extremely bad back). What I need (now more than ever) is to keep my
practice schedule going. It's really easy to slack off at times.

It's kinda fun having to think through some exercises that up till now I've
taken for granted (scales in thirds etc.).

Why? Have you changed the tuning on that 5th string?
