Repairman question



I have a Kent Beatle bass copy. The tuners are toast. I got some new ones
that are killer, unfortunately the ferrules are a tad bigger than the holes.
The new tuner trees will not fit in the old ferrules. It has of course a
hard plastic (celluloid?) overlay on the headstock. How can I drill these
out with out tearing up the edges of the surface?
