How to get this effect?

I was playing with a rather weird guitarist last night, some of whose songs
could use something like a bowed bass sound - steady volume until the bow
stops. My bass has nice sustain, but it fades just a little too soon in some
instances. Is there some sort of pedal that would produce this effect?
