Actually, I think it was 60 years ago. The album was released in June of 1967 and the lyrics state "It was twenty years ago today...." That would make it in 1947 when Sgt Pepper taught the band to play, 60 years ago.


Probably a little earlier, since the lyrics were written before the album was released...
