Not in your list, but I've been happy with GHS Bass Boomers. At least on my
bass, the name is misleading. Only the E string is a bit boomy, but it's
easily managed via the tone controls, or the EQ on the amp. Overall though,
they sound even, very clear, but not too bright. I get about a year out of a
set, practicing 1-2 hours every day, plus gigs.
I think my OLP MM2 has Bass Boomers on it right now. GHS is always my
"go to" string when I want a good great sounding quality string that
doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I agree with Joe that "boomers" are
not especially "boomy" strings! Since my OLP is more in the "bar bass"
class and isn't much of a main axe, I don't worry too much about what
strings to put on it. For main axes I tend to prefer D'Addario nickle
wound in the round wound category. My personal feeling is that nylon-
wrap strings would NOT be a good idea on an OLP. I never actually
tried it, mind you, but my feeling is that the tone would not be
especially sting-rayish! I only use nylon-wrap strings on my semi-
hollow body acoustic bass. Nylon-wrap strings are a dream on the
fingers to play, however. If you want to try some, please report back
here with your opinion on how they work on an OLP. I'd like to know
(without actually laying out the cash for a set of nylon-wrapped
strings, natch).
