I'm in a semi regularly gigging band and we're making some bux we put into
a band kitty... we've amassed enough to start to buy some decent PA stuff.
Have good speakers and stands, now we're looking at monitors. One guy
wants cheapo Kustom KPC15M's, I say nyet, too heavy, bulky, too much gear
to hump already, not enough power handling, and they'll take up too much
floor in some of the small places we play. We have 8 people in the band
so floor space is already at a premium. I countered with the Yamaha
SM10V, 2x more power handling, undoubtedly better sounding, and about 1/2
the weight... but at like 3x the price. Still, we have plenty to drop for
3 or 4 of them.

Any one have experience with either of them, or can you suggest a decent,
relatively portable monitor? All we use them for is vocals now. Possibly
may run guitars/keys/sax thru them at some point in the future. No bass
thru the monitor, I crank my Ashdown, put a cab on each side of the drums
and shake the floor. Everybody hears and/or feels me fine. My concerns
are clarity, durability, portability and adequate power handling.

thanks,
mkl
I use a pair of JBL EON 15G2 Powered cabs for mains, work great, not too
heavy (but expensive). I wanted something smaller for monitors (the EON 10G2
would be great, but not enough in the budget now). I ordered a Gemini GC250
10" powered cabinet, should be here tomorrow (if it works out, at $150 plus
shipping, I'll order another - if not, I can return it within a week and
only be out the shipping both ways). They have 8", 10", 12" and 15"
cabinets, seem to be in use by DJs.

I looked at the Nadys - they weigh more than my mains.
