considered being creative, then how can we all go on living? I mean,
isn't this the end of life as we know it? How can we face ourselves each
morning?
Infidel! Anything with Joe Walsh is worth listening to.
Yeah, but covering it is creative? "Funk 49" and "Walk Away" are right
up there on the list of songs that never, ever need to be played again.
Ever.
Come on Brian! Just like a Lawyer you completely changed the QUESTION
let alone the answer! The question was how can I take this good band
situation with a great bunch of guys and get them out of the country
bubble-gum music mode.
The answer to that question was not "do Eagles covers" but rather to
try to push the set list (or for that matter just the music you
practice!) in different directions away from the current music. As I
see it, the action that needs taken is simply to apply some pressure
to introduce the great band members to EXTENSIONS in a variety of
directions of the music they already are playing. The plan is to
EDUCATE the band members not turn the band into some cover band.
Sheesh!
And anyway, the problem with "Songs that never, ever need to be played
again" is NOT the SONGS! The problem is everyone playing them "just
like on the recording". Ever heard "happy Birthday to you" "covered"
by a decent jazz band?
