Re: Flatwound strings on Rick 4003

Hi everyone,
I've decided that the Rotosound flats on my 4003 have to go! I'm after
that 'dead' 'thump' sound (think Macca or disco BeeGees) and the
rotosound flats are just too ringy.
After trawling the interweb for a while it seems the sound I'm after
is bet supplied by using either Pyramids, Thomastik or Labella.
Pyramids seem not only horribly expensive, but impossible to get (in
the UK), so I'm thinking of Thomastik/Labella.
My querie is, are Thomastik "Infield" flatwound the same as the "Jazz
Flatwound"?
Also, someone (very well thought of) suggested D'addario Chromes,
anyone's input or advice would be greatly appreciated regarding tone/
tension etc.

Cheers all

You might want to consider the Carvin (made by LaBella) flats. They have that thumpy sound I think you're looking for - I put them on two 5-string fretless basses I've built for customers.

It's not what I like, actually - I have a set of the Rotosound Jazz Flats on one of my Jazz Basses, and I love the bright tone - almost like a set of round-wound nickels.
