Great for trumping the Saturday morning slappers
in your local music store.
I've worked out a few things for my own amusement
on BG but never found a use live for them and
I sure can't tap on double bass and no place for
it in the jazz I play.
I do take my hat off to those that can do it well.

Hi guys,
I recently saw a youtube video of some bass player tapping up a storm on
his
bass. Although he was just doing it in his basement on his camcorder, it
was
very impressive nonetheless. I have never done any tapping, and hadn't
really ever considered it. After watching this video, and several others
of
the same thing, it got my juices flowing for wanting to start working on
that myself. However, after common sense set back in, I realized I have a
lot of other areas that require work before getting into something so
esoteric. But the one persistent question that arose from this experience
leads me to ask you guys, is tapping genuinely esoteric, or is it
something
that is more common than I realized? And I'm talking strictly real-world
gig
application here - do you guys do any tapping on gigs? Do you have one or
two songs in the band repertoire that allow you to take center stage and
strut your tapping chops, or do you regularly do any songs that
incorporate
tapping into them? Is that one of the staples in your jazz shows?
Thanks!
David
