They key is not to let the previous note keep ringing. If the previously
played note is an "open" on a different string, the technique the guy is
showing can be good. Otherwise, I find it more convenient to suppress the
previous note with my *left* hand technique (i.e., just lifting the finger
that's holding the string down). There's plenty of options out there
though. I play with both a pick and fingers; what he's showing wouldn't
work playing with a pick. YMMV.
