Let's see now, 12 volts times 10 amps = 120 watts INPUT. Remember that
If the OP is using a good size deep cycle battery, he can draw 12 volts
and 10 amps for about an hour. Not an anemic.
output must always be less than input so the absolute maximum peak power
it could put out would be 120watts. That's not what I consider
outlandish. YMMV
As you say, YMMV. Many of us play with less; definitely depends on
what/where you play. Bringing a battery powered amp to an outdoor
metalfest in front of thousands is kind of dumb; but for a small coffee
house trying to keep up with a banjo or sumthin', you can be well heard.
Oh, don't get me wrong - I agree. I was just commenting on the "outlandish
power" statement in the earlier post. I think my BA115 is rated at 100
watts, isn't it? I suspect that's rms continuous, though. I'd love to have
a battery portable too, if it was useable. I'm considering one of those
little Roland cubes.
I just finished putting together a NiMH battery pack for my homebuilt
electric bicycle. It will happily put out 10 amps at 48 volts for a good
part of the hour. It weighs about 16 lbs. Luggable.
Now that sounds a lot more interesting. I see where someone just started
marketing a small electric motorcycle but the prices was ridiculous
($15k??) and the range was less than 50 miles with a top speed of less
than 50mph if I recall correctly.
This is the old Mark I testbed, I've already moved to Mark II:

That's 40 D size NiMH batteries (10 Amp-hour).
If someone gives me half of that 15k, I will gladly build them one that
can do 50/50. Pretty easy, engineering wise. But of course, I couldn't
afford the liability stuff.
Tho
Very interesting, I'll be watching for your progress on this one.
