However, there's another layer, which is what I find really sad about the stories you mentioned. I'm talking about the lack of self-esteem (or however you want to call it) that leads you to not learn and get better at whatever it is you're doing.

it looks like at least some of the people you described don't have the "verve" to try to improve... That's what I find sad.


and that makes two instances .. I'll add that they all feel somehow entitled to a car, a home and all the toys that count as modern "conveniences". I do know some very good, hard working individuals, but there are way fewer of those than there are of the others. We *are* doomed.
