Yes. £ 9 bn raised in tax revenues. Direct medical cost of cigarette
smoking is about a fifth of that. There are also productivity losses,
but on the other hand there's less pension to be paid out.

Medical costs include nurse and doctors salaries, equipment, hospital beds,
training... and that's without getting into research costs.

Can you actually think of a disease which is entirely tobacco-related?
Any research will benefit non-smokers and smokers alike. And I am
aware of the other costs, being from a medical family.
