Woohoo: Fender A/E Precision Fretless. Now the questions...

Over the last year or so, I've been takin' turns jonesin' for a
fretless, an A/E and a Precision. So when I had a chance to score one
of these (MIJ, '92) for $500 on CL, I jumped on it.

It's in excellent condition, first owner, original strings (!), sounds
great. Despite the name, it's *not* a P neck; very J. And the A/E logo
on the headstock is hideous. Otherwise, a beautiful axe. Bone bridge
piece, flawless slab rosewood f'board with virtually no chew.

Now my questions: Seems the piezo and the Lace Sensor P p'up share the
same preamp with no buffer for the piezo. What does this mean in real
terms? I've never had to deal with dramatically different impedances
before (further downstream, I use a BigShot I/O switch box to switch
between two basses). According to Bob Golihur, the fix is to put in a
two-channel preamp, which requires some work on the bass (and some $$,
obviously). Anyone dealt with this before?

Also, the Lace Sensors: They're not active, are they? Or are they?
I've heard some not-too-flattering things about them, and would
consider replacing them with Fenders or Fralins, but I don't have a
working P to compare them to right now. Any thoughts?

Well, woohoo regardless. But any insights would be mucho appreciadoed.
