NO, they didn't! :-0

(that was a slight misrepresentation for comedic purposes,
http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/faq.html explains the truly bizarre
state of affairs - essentially that most of the money is owed by US
government departments to the US federal reserve bank and other
government accounts - just think about that for a while - your
government is borrowing from itself to service its debts to itself that
it knows it can't ever pay because it hasn't the budget to do so).

You guys are homing in on it but don't quite have it yet. The money
is owed to the PRIVATE federal reserve corporation. In fact EVERY
dollar in circulation is a dollar of debt to the Federal Reserve
bank! But it is not owed to itself! There is nothing FEDERAL about
the federal reserve! And yes, the debt is too big to EVER be paid
back unless the ENTIRE country and ALL the property in it is turned
over the to the Federal reserve stockholders. That was the idea in the
first place. This massive debt essentially makes so-called "debt
service" in reality a massive TAX upon America.

But the problem is WAY bigger than this! (believe it or not!) It goes
like this: Back after WWII a deal was made with the Saudis whereby
everyone was to pay for oil in dollars which the Saudis would then use
to buy US. debt and use as a credit line. In effect this arrangement
backs the U.S. dollar with oil. In exchange, for them doing this we
agreed to provide whatever military protection they ever needed for
the country, regime and oil fields. And this we have done. The
problem began when Saddam attacked Kuwait and later Iraq and Iran
began an economic attack on the U.S, by setting up oil exchanges for
their oil to be traded in Euros. This would TOTALLY undermine the U.
S. economy (as well as the massive debt held by the Saudis). They
knew this and Bush jr. knew it too. He was under attack and between a
rock and a hard place. So with his back to the economic wall, he made
up a bull*** excuse and took Saddam out. The hope was that this act
would also send a warning to Iran to get them to back off without a
war. However, they are hard to intimidate, so the bull*** talk about
nukes keeps going, but you can be SURE the real issue is oil not
nukes!

Bottom line is that sure, the money spent on Iraq would make a nice
health care system, BUT it wouldn't mean jack once the American Dollar
is crashed like Germany in the 30's! But politics is never about truth
and real issues. It's always about lies and B.S. to try to do what you
need to, while covering up the real issues. As J. P. Morgan noted,
There are two reasons for doing things: "A good reason and the REAL
reason!"

Sweet dreams!
