Preamp Bass recording vs Mic'd Amp

Hi Group!! Which way is better to record Bass track? I currently have a
digi-recorder and can't seem to get some puncy clear bass track from my
Bass preamp..maybe it's my preamp? or is Miking an Amp better? thanks!!
