Also untrue. Or rather, there are simple settings that allow you to
connect you iPod to someone elses computer (for charging or playing)
without losing your music and for having more than one iPod registered
to your computer.
There are also other bits of software than iTunes which will manage the
files on your iPod.
The iPod/iTunes system was designed to be trivial to use for most
people, and flexible enough for people with other needs.
