Can someone please tell me why I decided to play with a band?

"We're only running the vocals through the PA and in most cases we're
just
trying to set them as high as we can without getting feedback."

We don't have a sound man, nor do most of the places we play. The quote,
above, is our drummer's theory about how to begin adjusting the sound. Is
it
just me, or does that statement ignore certain physical realities, like
the
audience's tolerance for loudness, the room acoustics, etc?

Heh... sounds like drummer logic.

You've just discovered one of my justifications for my Sennheiser
EW172 G2. I wander out periodically as we play to toss an ear on the
mix, and return to the stage to make adjustments as necessary. We do
our sound from the stage too, and only run vocals and a bit of guitar
through the mains.

The drummer's kit is loud as hell, and with 540W, I can make my rig
fill the room as needed.

This approach also allows us to have a very compact easy to manage pa
setup. 12" and horn cabs on a stick are all we need for most rooms.
Best Regards,

Another clue: In normal conversations, the drummer almost yells. Always. 35
years old, and heading toward deafness.

The latest nonsense in the email debate we're having at the moment: "We
should all be able to accurately judge what we sound like to the audience".
