From the wires...
A consortium of well-financed bass teachers has bought out the world's
leading online retailer of musical instruments, MusiciansFriend.com.
Spokesman Jack Hennessy said, "We were looking a way for spending all this
extra money we make from teaching. This seemed like the ideal way."
Wow Jim you are soooo clever, can I have an autograph? Ohh or maybe
your web address so I can go look up what kind of neat stuff you have?
You are right, teaching music is exactly like selling cheap guitars. In
fact, all business is exactly the same. Teaching guitar, selling pianos,
repairing cars, selling fast food, giving massages, it's all identical.
Every business needs a website listing the equipment they use and the hours
they are open, and anyone who does not is doing things wrong. I was going
to go to McDonalds today but they refused to even LIST the kind of fryer
model they have at my local McDonalds, so I told them to go to hell. Screw
those guys, if they wanted my business they would put up a nice website with
all the information I want, and if they won't even do that for me, then I
will take my business elsewhere. Can you believe that they wouldn't even
give me the name and shoe size of the fry cook that would be on duty today
at 4:00 PM?!
I am going to write my congressman as well, sure he has a website about
his campaign but never once does it mention what brand of suit he wears, and
that really upsets me. I mean, how can I know if this guy knows what he is
doing, and how to do his job, if I don't even know what kind of pen he takes
his notes with? Maybe he's using Bic's and he knows all the *real* pro's
use nice custom jobs...you know what, that's it, I'm changing my vote.
Thanks for the inspiration Jim, you are a real help.
Every business is doing things wrong; my congressman doesn't have any
sample speeches up, McDonalds doesn't have a "can I take your order" script
on their website...and when I went to buy a guitar online they didn't even
have a recording of someone playing "Stairway to Heaven" on the guitar I
wanted to buy! How can I possibly shop online for a guitar without so much
as a recording of that guitar playing "Stairway to Heaven"?! It's obvious
that those guys don't want my business.
I look forward to seeing your website Jim, I assume that since you don't
teach it will list relevant personal information. Perhaps a phone number,
address, and the names of your family members? Since your business seems to
be "pro bono business consultation" I expect you to list your information so
any of us seeking your services can show up anytime, wherever you happen to
be, and at the very least know which car is yours when we get there. I find
any less information completely unacceptable.
