Vodka-induced curiosity

OK, so we've been cocktailing a bit here, my guitarist & I, and we're
pondering deep musical questions.
1) What's the range of scale lengths on typical upright basses? Not some
custom-made oddity built by elves for Stanley Clark, but basses you're
actually likely to run into.
2) We (in our infinite wisdom) believe uprights sound so different from
electrics not just because of their large internal cavity, but also because
of scale length. With this in mind, does anyone make electric basses (the
kind you hang on your shoulders) with scales longer than 34" or 35"?
Please show your work in the margin.
