One other solution that deserve a brief mention - in-ear monitors. This
can certainly be an expensive solution and if the only reason you're
doing it is to avoid bass feedback, then I wouldn't recommend it. Good
in-ears can cost more than your instrument - unless you're playing a
Lull, a Fodera or similar.
John Lodge, bass player for The Moody Blues, frequently uses an ABG on
stage. Rather than a massive backline amp, I suspect he's using in-ear
monitors. That's a guess on my part - I don't really know. But it
points out that ABGs can be used quite sucessfully to play rock and
roll - even in arena-type settings.
