Has he got an MP3? That'd be precious.

I don't usually post gig stories, but I'm still laughing. A copy of an e-mail sent to a friend..
Inclement weather aside, we had a great gig at Fresno State College over the weekend.
I arrived from the California coastal town of Santa Cruz just in time for a rather productive 15 minute
rehearsal with the band I was to play with. I was told by the guitar player that I would be singing Merle Haggard's "Mama
Tried" and the old favorite "Under the Boardwalk". Never sang the tunes in my life. In those 15 minutes I was
grateful to be given the simple chords but I still had no idea of the lyrics.
The other guitar player, bless his soul, jumped into the mix by searching the web and then
printed the words five minutes before we left for the show. This was of
incalculable worth. Just think. Words with which to mouth. On the drive
over I was able to recall the melodies as well. This helped immensely, as
I'm sure you are quite aware.
As we began "Under the Boardwalk" it came to me, rather suddenly, that the
tune could use a little spoken intro of a story. Not having the slightest
idea what I was saying from sentence to sentence, a touching tale emerged of a trip
north from Vancouver to the beachy sands of the Arctic. Complete with
sexual encounters of the northern wildlife variety. A love story, if you will.
Hell, I was as stunned as anyone.
It was a good attention grabber.
