Further down the replies someone suggested postal money order. Since Puerto Rico is a territory of the US, that might not be too bad. Postal fraud is a federal crime and there'd be no extradition required.

At the same time, you could just walk away from the deal, take the "deadbeat" rap and save yourself a whole lot of potential pain.

At the same time, the guy could be totally legit.
