Re: Fender bass - U.S. vs. Japan, etc.

~ My 'Crafted in Japan' Jazz '62 Reissue is absolutely beautifully made,
especially considering the price! They're the best value and quality in
the Fender line IMHO.

Hmm, I wasn't aware that they did a Japan "62" J-Bass Reissue. Does
this particular bass have the Dual Concentric Tone/Volume Controls as a
true '62 Jazz Bass, and the '62 American Made Vintage Reissue, or is it
a 3 Knob affair? Just curious.

I'll chime in here, as I also own a Made in Japan '60's Reissue P-Bass
in Candy Red.
About the most noticable differences between these, and an American '62
Reissue I have is that thre Tuners, while good quality are not reverse
Tuners, the Electronics appear to be a bit cheaper, but still good, and
all wiring is done very well inside, The '60's japan bass doesn't have
the metal shield under the pickguard like my '62 american reissue does,
the knobs are of a slightly cheaper quality, with coarser Knurling than
the '62 Vintage.
I'm sure the wood is probably not Alder, but more likely Poplar, or?

Other than that, construction is absolutely first rate, the Fret Work is
flawless, Fingerboard flawless, and of great quality, Dot Markers
perfectly installed, fit of Neck to body flawless, the flawless
application of Candy Red paint and vintage tinted finish on the
Neck/Headstock/Decals, and overall contruction truly made this a bass I
never wanted to part with.

Every bit as pretty, and plays just as well as my '62 Vintage. One can
easily upgrade Electronics to whatever one wishes, and perhaps things
like knobs no problem.

One can always order the Bridge/Pickup Covers, and Finger Rest, and
Screws straight from Fender to complete the Insturment. I believe the
Japan Basses don't come with this hardware.

One Japan P-Bass I always liked, and wanted was the '75 reissue, with
Maple Board, and White Fretboard Marker Blocks. Very cool.
