E and G Flatwound strings extending up past the tuner post

Im having some problems stringing up my jay turser beatle bass copy. The
neck is shortscale but the way the tailpiece rides up close to the bridge is
throwing me some difficulty with string length. With shortscale strings,
the E and G are not quite long enough. Ruined one set experimenting with
that. Went out and bought a set of Medium length now the E and G strings
will wind up past the post of the turner by just a bit.

Heres a question:

If a small amount of the actual flatwound string wraps around the turner
post, perhaps as much as a half or even one complete wrap around the tuner
post, will that ruin the flatwound string? It would be just the E and G
(the A and D have the proper length).

Thanks,
Kevin
