I can see in this context how it could be confusing. I would not go to
the extent of trying to correct him or telling him he's wrong, but you could
subtly verbalize what he says in the context you understand. He may catch
on and find it easier to refer to chords C#M7 rather than 'C# with a C
added'.

You will rarely find a band mate that does not irritate you in some way. I
think it just naturally comes from spending so much time together.
