Stage fright

How do I get over stage fright?

I am always really nervous at gigs. I don't get so bad that I can't perform
or throw up, but it can be a bit debilitating. Maybe this is why I play
bass so I can hide in the back away from the spotlight.

I find that I play better at practice than at a gig. Sometimes it is a
vicious cycle where I screw up because I am nervous then get nervous because
I screwed up.

I must confess to drinking a little before a play to take the edge off. It
does help a little.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
David
