Huge congrats for having the courage to follow through with this! And good
luck!

Think Carol Kaye. Think Jamerson. Syncopation is the key here.
Don't know if I can make sense in ASCII text, but I'll try...
8= 1/8th note 4 = 1/4 note
8 4 8 4 8 4 8 4 8888
Now if you write this out in 4/4 time, the third 4 above is actually the and
of four tied to the downbeat of 1 in the next measure. And it counts like
this:
1 and and three four and and two three and four and
Possible riff is: CE EF FF# F#G GACA to C. Play C on third fret of A
string...go below it to open E and come back up.
Another example...
Think in 8/8 time here. ) = 8th rest (single beat). + = 16th rest (half a
beat)
C ) C'C' + Bb ) ) EFF#G | C ) C'C' + Bb E F F#G
C is an 8th note. C'C' are 16ths as is Bb. E, F F# G are 16ths. C and C'
have same values in second measure...think of Bb, E, and F as offbeats. F#
is 16th, G is 8th.
One Three and and ... Three and Four and One Three and and and and and Four
I don't know if this makes sense or not...but it's the best I can do here. I
can play it...I can write it out in standard notation. But this is the best
I can do to try to get the idea across in ASCII. Sorry...

Just play a 12-bar with each letter below representing the two notes that
make up a shuffle feel....lump da lump da...standard triplet shuffle feel,
ok?
AA A'A' GG EE...that's your box...Root, octave, flat seventh, five. If you
want get a *little* fancy you can do something like AA A'A' GG EGE down to
the IV, which would be D in this case...and EGE is a triplet....and AA A'A'
GG EDD# to the V, which is E. Like this:
|: AA A'A' GG EE | AA A'A' GG EE | AA A'A' GG EE | AA A'A' GG EGE
DD D'D' CC AA | DD D'D' CC AGA | AA A'A' GG EE | AA A'A' GG EDD#
EE E'E' DD BB | DD D'D' CC AGA | AA A'A" GG EE | AA ADD# E... DD#E :|
The other pattern is AA EE GG A'A' -- your box is Root, fifth, flat seventh,
octave. Your triplets into IV and V are AGE and AAG respectively.
If you want to go the extra mile...play one of them legato...play the other
stacatto...show them you can do two different feels with these patterns.
Hope that makes sense...this is all so much easier when sitting across from
each other...and hope it helps!
