Sorry, me, I'll stick with a real SVT and 8-10 cab. After all,
that is one of the sounds they are all trying to clone, isn't it.
..now throw neo spkrs into THAT amp and listen... PUKE..
I've seen it tried. One guy bitched about cab weight, and
put some in a 2nd cab. It sucked and blew. And he knew
his bass playing better then I do. Is that enough opinion
for you..? If not, see our quote above..repeat...
I don't think the SVT sound is that hard to improve on. YMMV.
A properly proportioned cab , based on something like an Eminence
Delta 15" will have better bass extension and still cover
the tone range an SVT will cover. That bottom octave or two is
Dangerous, but it's not that hard to manage with EQ - if in
doubt, leave it out. Listen to the room return.
G&K makes several 400W cabinets like this.
It'll also be three 50ish pound pieces that are pretty easy to
haul on a two wheel cart instead of two really heavy ( ~ 100
pound ) peices.
This being said, the SVT will cut through a sonically
crowded stage mix better, for when you're doing the full
mains/monitor setup thing with cartage and crew.
