The pathetic Beatless addict slobbered

Having dug through volumes of web sites and having solicited advice
elsewhere, I'm leaning heavily toward the "Winged C" EL34. Given
that, I'm
not sure your compromise trick will work, since as I understand it the
EL34Ls bias closer to where the 6550s want to be than the non-L
versions do.

'Bout sums THAT up...

More "expertise", I see. Hey Willie, now's your chance to make a helpful
contribution to the group. Why not can the act and go for it?

Lord Wackadoo got his jumbo sized 8XL panties in a bunch because you
didn't quote the name of the tube correctly. It's JJ E34L. But I knew
where you were going.

OK, gotcha. Funny that some amp forums use "EL34L".

There are various numbers on various tubes, and I believe "Groove Tubes" (and maybe Ruby) sometimes uses their own code. I've seen EL34S, EL34B, EL34M WXT... It's like alphabet soup.

I have the "fake" Mullards in my Traynor at the moment. It sounds great, but I have not swapped others in and out for comparison. It also came with a pair of 6CA7. I thought that they were bad when I bought the couple of pairs of Russian Mullard, but they ended up testing usable.

I've been bouncing around on dialing in amps, and the Traynor is next in line to wrap up. But that could be tomorrow, or February!

I may have to swap all of them in and out of my JMP 2204 one of these days. However, no way to do it "blind" because the bias needs to be set.

Winged C SED have a decent reputation for reliability, but I don't own any. Quick price check at tubedepot.com says they call them SVEL34

Yeah, I've checked them out on tubedepot and a couple of other places. I've still gotta check to see whether the tech that's gonna do the work prefers to get them from his own trusted source.
